Sports Certificate 1977

1970s

The Stourbridge junior schools met every summer to take part in the Annual Inter-School Sports.  The schools took it in turns to host the event and Wollaston had an excellent record in both boys’ and girls’ events.  This is the certificate which was awarded to Kay Dudley for coming first in the Girls’ Hurdles when she set a new record in June 1977.  In 1962 Percy Troughton wrote in the school log-book that Wollaston Junior School had retained both boys and girls shields for the sixth consecutive year.  In 1977 Jack Porter wrote:- “Inter School Sports - competed against 10 other schools.  Very proud to have won both Boys’ and Girls’ shields for the 3rd successive year.”
