The Children’s Corner Altar.

1960s

Ray Read gave many years of service to St James’s Church.  His skill as a craftsman is shown in the altar which he made for the Children’s Corner in the church.  It is an exact scale replica of the main altar and is the focus of the area where the children meet.  Ray held a number of other positions in church, including many years as a member of the choir and of the P.C.C.  There were large and small jobs which he was able to complete in the maintenance of the building and he also organised the distribution of ‘Scope’ which, for some years, replaced for the Parish Magazine.
